Different Versions of Bladerunner

I noticed their are a few different versions of Bladerunner, theatrical cut, final cut, directors cut, etc., does anyone know what the major differences are between the different versions?

  1. The theatrical version, which was the one I saw, has Deckard's narration and without the unicorn scenes.

I haven't watched the other two. But from what I got from my research, the newer ones does not have Deckard's narration and has the unicorn scenes. And I think the ending was a little different but not too crazy different.

That's what I got out of it so far. I don't understand why there has to be different versions of the movie.

  2. The reason why there are different versions is that funding for the movie dropped halfway through production then a three way production deal was quickly made to finance it.
The company Tandem was responsible for the first cut of the film where cut out the possibility of Deckard being a replicant and added narration to make it more audience friendly and thus floped in theaters.

Then the film became a cult classic where it was selling out theaters in festivals, and Warners did the Directors Cut in 1992. Scott had nothing to do with this, and it was restored to what Scott had originally designed for the film, taking out the narrative, restoring the replicant possiblity of Ford, and having a city ending.

The 2007 Directors cut was what Ridley Scott had actually worked on. Differences was extended scenes in the Dream sequence and Zhora's chase/death scene, and Batty's death scene was redone to be at a bleak night. The overall intention was to make the film more dark and violent, and update the film to be digitally remastered.

  3. I'm glad they took out the narration. As I was watching I couldn't get over how cheesy it was. I just read an article that even Harrison Ford did not like having to do the narration.
